In the early 1800s, it rivaled Memphis as a shipping hub \u2014 with steamboats like the Elenora docking at its harbor to load and unload goods bound for markets downriver.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Perched on the second Chickasaw Bluff, Randolph was known for its excellent harbor and steady stream of river traffic. At one point, as many as 18 steamboats arrived in a single week, carrying everything from cotton to passengers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Over time, flooding, the Civil War, and shifting trade routes led to Randolph\u2019s decline.
