The Tennessee Department of Health conducted 15 food service and mobile unit inspections across Tipton County in June 2026, covering 14 establishments (Holiday Inn Express Breakfast was inspected twice in one day).<\/p>\n

No restaurant, food truck, or hotel kitchen earned a perfect 100 this month \u2014 a first in recent memory \u2014 but nothing cracked into serious territory either.<\/p>\n

The top score was a 99, claimed three times over. The bottom was a 92, and it belongs to a restaurant now on its second follow-up since a rough May.<\/p>\n

Follow-ups: Tacos vs. Sushi Bar & Grill<\/h2>\n

Tacos vs Sushi Bar & Grill at 5754 Richardson Landing in Drummonds has now been inspected three times since late May, and the file isn’t closed yet.<\/p>\n

The trouble started May 29, when inspectors found the sushi display cooler running at 54\u00b0F \u2013 well above the 41\u00b0F safe limit for raw fish \u2013 and embargoed roughly three pounds of product. That inspection scored a 75, the worst food service score of the prior reporting period, and required a follow-up.<\/p>\n

On June 4, inspectors returned for a second follow-up, conducted jointly with another inspector. The score climbed to a 92, but seven items were still listed as OUT: proper cooling methods and equipment, thermometers, wiping cloth storage, utensil and equipment storage, toilet facilities, physical facilities, and ventilation and lighting. The priority cold-holding issue that triggered the original embargo appears resolved, but the list of unresolved housekeeping and maintenance items is long enough that further follow-up looks likely.<\/p>\n

Clean resolutions<\/h2>\n

Not every follow-up dragged on. Sonic Drive In of Covington<\/strong> (710 Highway 51 N, Covington) closed out its own lingering issue on June 25, scoring a 99 on a follow-up tied to a May 19 routine inspection that had flagged an out-of-compliance soft serve machine cleaning schedule. The store manager produced a nightly sign-off sheet, and the district has since rolled out the same cleaning protocol at every company-owned location in the state.<\/p>\n

Zaxby’s Chicken<\/strong> (11191 Hwy 51 S, Atoka) also cleared its books on June 10, scoring a 98 on a follow-up after correcting its soft serve\/ice cream machine documentation \u2014 an issue that had carried over from two separate May inspections.<\/p>\n

Holiday Inn Express Breakfast<\/strong> (120 Denna Cove, Covington) had the fastest turnaround of the month: a routine inspection on June 24 turned up a missing paper towel supply at the handwashing sink (staff were drying hands with dish towels \u2014 corrected on the spot), mixed-direction utensil storage, the wrong type of test strips on hand, and a toaster oven drawer that wouldn’t stay shut. The score came in at 95. A same-day follow-up brought it to 97, with three minor items still outstanding.<\/p>\n

Mobile Units Had a Strong Month<\/h2>\n

Tipton County’s mobile food vendors turned in the cleanest results of the month. TCB Concessions<\/strong> (Drummonds) and Rainbow Squeezed Lemonade<\/strong> (Atoka) each scored 99 on routine inspections June 24 \u2014 both dinged only for missing drainboards at their three-compartment sinks. The Sno Cottage<\/strong>, inspected June 30 in a Valero gas station parking lot in Brighton, scored 98 with two minor items: a missing thermometer and, again, no drainboards.<\/p>\n
