Tipton County’s latest round of food safety inspections, covering Aug. 24-28, 2026, produced reports on seven inspections across five restaurants and two elementary school cafeterias, with scores ranging from a perfect 100 down to a concerning 68.<\/p>\n

El Presidente Mexican Restaurant<\/strong> on Highway 51 in Covington posted the week’s lowest score, a 68, during a routine inspection on Aug. 26. Inspectors documented a dozen individual violations touching nearly every corner of the kitchen.<\/p>\n

The report opens with a priority violation citing the person in charge for inadequate control over food storage and sanitation practices, tied to four separate walk-in cooler violations under the food-separation code and a failed sanitizer test at the dish machine.<\/p>\n

Inspectors found uncovered cooked chicken wings and cactus stored on open shelves, raw fish stored above an uncovered container of sliced green onions, a hamburger chub sitting directly on a case of ready-to-eat pineapples, and raw eggs in the shell stored above a container of pico de gallo \u2014 all inside the same walk-in cooler. The dish machine tested with no sanitizer present; the person in charge arranged for dishes to be finished with a manual sanitizing step in the three-compartment sink, which then tested at 100 ppm.<\/p>\n

Additional violations included an employee drink without a lid left on a prep table where beef was being cut (discarded on the spot), a half-gallon of unrefrigerated orange juice in the storeroom (about a pound and a half of product was embargoed), an unlabeled spray bottle of purple liquid near the dish machine, wet-nested metal pans, food debris hanging from walk-in cooler shelving, and trash cans without lids in the women’s restroom.<\/p>\n

Inspectors noted this marks the second consecutive inspection with priority violations under the food-separation code, which triggers a formal repeat-violation warning letter requirement for the restaurant.<\/p>\n

Outlaw BBQ<\/strong> in Munford scored an 88 on its routine inspection. Inspectors embargoed roughly 80 pounds of potato salad, coleslaw, and other products after finding a walk-in cooler not holding proper temperature; a 90-day follow-up has been ordered to confirm the unit is repaired or replaced.<\/p>\n

Follow-up inspections<\/h2>\n

Two follow-up inspections wrapped up this week, both showing marked improvement.<\/p>\n

Marco’s Pizza #8504 <\/strong>in Atoka was inspected twice on Aug. 27. A routine visit turned up two minor issues \u2014 an employee drinking a Red Bull in the dough-making area and dust buildup on the pizza oven \u2014 for a score of 94. A same-day follow-up found one lingering cleaning item still open and closed at 99.<\/p>\n

Crafted Coffee<\/strong> in Covington followed a similar path on Aug. 25, moving from 93 on its routine inspection (no sanitizer detected in the three-compartment sink, a broken refrigerator thermometer, and a wet wiping cloth on the counter) to 98 on a same-day follow-up, after the missing sanitizer issue was corrected on site.<\/p>\n

Los Alebrijes<\/strong> in Atoka posted the week’s most dramatic turnaround. Its routine inspection on Aug. 19 scored a 79, with a dozen violations spanning improper handwashing substitutes, an unrefrigerated slicer, three separate dirty-equipment citations, and an employee drink stored in a reach-in freezer. Last week’s follow-up on Aug. 27 closed out at 94, though six items \u2014 thermometer accuracy, wiping cloths, in-use utensil storage, equipment cleanliness, and ventilation \u2014 remained open on recheck.<\/p>\n
