The Atoka Police Department arrested a 29-year-old Atoka man Thursday after threats were made during a custodial disagreement at morning drop-off near Atoka Elementary School, according to school officials and police.
In a call out, school officials said the arrest took place off campus and that students who were on the playground were brought inside. Classes continued as scheduled and the school day proceeded without further incident, officials said.
Students were not in danger at any time, according to the school.
Richard Bradley was charged with threats of mass violence, disorderly conduct, civil rights intimidation, assault against a first responder and misuse of 911, police said. His bond was set at $100,000. He was released within hours.
Police said there is no ongoing threat to the school, students, staff or the community at this time.
“The Atoka Police Department takes threats involving our officers, schools, students, staff and community seriously and will continue working closely with school officials to help maintain a safe environment,” the department said in its release.
School officials thanked law enforcement and families for their support as the school worked to maintain a safe learning environment.
Police described the matter as an active case and said no additional information would be released at this time.
